HAPPY BIRTHDAY RACHEL TENBRINK!

ON REPEAT:

WELCOME TO THE BRIGHTSIDE

Another week, let's go! Zach and I spent the long weekend in Vermont and had such a blast snowboarding. We road tripped on Valentine's Day which meant a very romantic dinner at a rest stop McDonald's, but it was perfect. It took us a lonnnnggg time to battle traffic on the way back to the city on Monday but overall, it was such a fun escape and we felt so lucky to have three awesome days on the mountain! How was your Presidents Day? Do anything fun? Either way - HAPPY FRIDAY FAM, hope you have some fun stuff lined up for the weekend.

To anyone new from last week: welcome welcome welcome, thanks for signing up! Glad you're here :)

How's your mind today?

I'm reading Big Magic right now (I powered through the first two parts in December then took a little break, but I picked it back up this week) and I just finished to the section on perfectionism. Meg Gilbert talks about how perfectionism is "fear in a pair of heels" and if you have any hope of leading a creative life, you need to acknowledge fear but accept that perfection will just never be truly attainable.

The whole book is amazing but this part really struck me. It made me think about The Brightside and how nervous I was to get it off the ground - and even how nervous I can be before sending out each letter because I want it to be JUST RIGHT. I found that part of the book as a nice reminder that perfection is intangible and as long as what you're putting out into the world is coming from your heart, it's more important to create and take risks and learn than to do nothing at all. So here we are. Anyone else read the book? It really is so so good.

Personal Finance! Today is bonus day for me (yay bonus!) and for the first time since starting my job at Google, I'm not using the majority of my bonus to pay off a credit card. While I'm embarrassed to admit that I've spent so many of my past bonuses in this way, I'm really proud to report that some of the financial habits I put into practice at the end of 2019 are finally starting to pay off. Literally! I actually made a plan for how I was going to allocate my bonus this time around and I feel really good about it. Yay yay yay!

Highs:

  • Going to a Pure Barre class for the first time in YEARS and actually really enjoying it. I am excited to go back again soon!

  • Having a new friend date at my favorite NYC spot, westbourne

  • Sending this baby out!

Low: Working on performance reviews at work. A good thing to do, a necessary part of the process, but a VERY tedious task that made my brain feel on fire!

These two pairs of Birkenstocks! One, two.

all my love and more,
